SOUNDPEATS CLIP 1 – A FINE UTILITARIAN (KATHIR’S TAKE)
INTRODUCTION
Innovation keeps a brand alive regardless of the segment it’s in. The audio industry has evolved on a large scale since the beginning. The engineering marvel has shaken the industry and revolutionized the segment noticeably starting from the design. Various drivers and design patterns have been implemented to concentrate different genre of consumers.
Table Of Content
There’s a saturation point for everything! The continuous evolution of drivers didn’t match up with the conventional design. Brands sticked on to the traditional patterns like in ears and half in ears which still reigns the segment because of its simplicity. Coming out of the comfort zone, many brands have started implementing a newer pattern called CLIP ON style! This gives the best of both the worlds by being a most comfortable hearable without compromising much on other aspects.
The Soundpeats Clip 1 has entered the TWS segment with its unique clip on – open styled design pattern to bring a new era of comfort to its consumers. The USP of this specific design is the ultimate comfort! The ergonomically designed earpieces fit nicely onto the conchae without disturbing the ear canals.

DESIGN AND FIT:
Despite the usage of plastics all throughout its construction, they feel sturdy. The two components of the earpiece are neatly connected by a nickel-titanium arch wire which keeps the earpieces in shape. The design may seem bigger, but they stay sleek and maintains the aesthetics even when in the ears. The lightweight nature allows the earbuds to stay in the ears without much interruption and in most cases the users won’t be able to sense it that they are actually wearing it!
The case has a LED indicator for displaying the charge status which is neat and legible. The pairing button in tucked on the back side of the case for easy pairing. On side of that, there’s a USB C port for charging the case. Branding is done minimal in the case material with just a small logo on the top lid.
The left and right indicators are not mentioned and that doesn’t matter here! The case registers the side, based on the placement of earbuds inside the case using it’s AUTOSENSE technology.

SOUND ANALYSIS:
Open ears in general concentrates more on the comfort over sound and they are designed for that. Soundpeats however tried to balance the scale with great precision. The 12mm dual-magnet dynamic driver with titanium PVD coating brings some essence to the sound and adds up the character to the Clip 1.
SETUP: Dynamic EQ Option – This preset EQ gives the best in terms of dynamic range. The other profiles sound too flat and lacklustre.
The Dolby Audio is turned off during my testing as this didn’t improve anything in terms of audio.
BASS:
The snappy bass response gives immense clarity to the Clip 1. The precise attack and decay never muddy the low end that further helps the Clip 1 in replaying the busy tracks with ease.
Though the bass feels clean with precise attack, the lean weight and sub bass roll off comes along with the Clip 1 as a design constraint. The early sub bass roll off makes the presentation less energetic and the lightness in the weight brings a leaner bass response. Is this a big negative!? Nothing is bad in the audio field and everything comes to user preference. This just doesn’t suit for critical listening and that doesn’t mean its bad! This is for the people who choose comfort over dynamism and that should be appreciated rather than denied. Frankly, this bass response compliments the podcasts well by bringing the mid-section with rich clarity!
MID-SECTION:
Open ears concentrate the mid-section with utmost care. This unique design language gives the earpiece in reproducing a massive background scene. The bigger sound stage gives an edge to the Clip 1 in delivering a stellar separation in the mid-section.
The upfront vocals and neatly spread-out background instruments give a vivid touch and clarity to the Clip 1. Both the upper and lower mid-section sounds cleaner and all thanks to its lean bass profile. This does suit the vocals centric tracks and podcasts well. Despite its lack of lushness in the lower mid profile, the elevated upper mid does provide enough life and spark to the Clip 1.

TREBLE:
Clip 1 displays adequate brightness in the top end. The enhanced stage presence and the open ear style do help the Clip 1 is representing a strain free top end. This section separates the Clip 1 from its crowded competitors! Moving out of the usual V shaped sound, this curve does give the Clip 1 a new life and a refreshing taste.
Sibilance is well under control for the most part, but occasional sibilance shows up in specific tracks.
TECHNICALITIES:
STAGING: Clip 1 displays excellent width in the stage presence. The open ear style design attributes to this massive stage presence. However, the depth feels limited due to its shallow bass response.
TONALITY: TWS exhibiting neutral tone is something that should be appreciated. The lightness in its bass does gives a hint of brightness to its tone. The touch of brightness gives sparkle to the overall presentation.
IMAGING: The wide scene helps the Clip 1 in portraying precise imaging. The notes show up precisely in its destined portion with moderately faster transients. The notes come and leave with precise timing thereby allowing the presentation to sound cleaner but d
DETAIL RETRIEVAL: Clip 1 doesn’t state itself as a critical sound portrayer. Considering its design aspect, the details are extracted well. The essential nuances are brought out with ease but does struggles when the complex tracks show up.
The busy tracks are a demanding task for Clip 1 and it can be evidently seen with its track separation capacity. This does struggles in complex tracks, displaying a cluttered presentation and this can be seen especially in the treble and upper mid-section.

APP SUPPORT:
The Peats Audio provides several options to fiddle with. The Clip 1 functionality are easily accessed with this companion app starting from EQ to changing controls. The app does allow the Clip 1 to enable the LDAC mode for Hi-Res audio output.
CHARGING AND BATTERY:
The total playtime including the case comes around 40 hours and 8 hours without the case which is pretty amazing for its size. The charging case takes around 2 hours to charge and the earbuds themselves take around an hour to get charged.

This comes with Bluetooth version 5.4 which is up to today’s standard for an uninterrupted connectivity. The codecs present in the Clip 1 are the SBC, AAC and LDAC.
