This comparison is using KZ EDA vs HZsound Heart Mirror. Kz is the – even tough rejuvenated with the collabs – the KZ we audiophiles now. Heart Mirror (alised HM) is the golden classic for many audiophiles. Let’s see the results. To ensure fairness I used my neutral dap V30 first. Second part will be performed with Dx300.

KZ EDA

EDA has overlapping basses that is leading to ugliness at smooth jazz unless I keep the volume down 50/100. So I settled for 40. Background res is poor just like any other KZ I had tried. A V in its frequency curve is apparent. It diminishes the sound stage a little bit. Sorry to say but treble is wholly lacking life. However 3d imaging (and extensions + speed) are worth mentioning. Timbre is neutral to bright. That brightness might be because of raising the volume to 50/100 but the into of Driving says so. BUT the tiny and forward soundstage is efficiently killing off what it gained so far. Do not expect layering, background res and a charming tonality from Balanced EDA. Leave charming alone, only 1 or 2 notches of tonality you can find in its ear pain giving splashy treble and crude basses (60/100)

Words can’t describe what I feel while re-listening Limehouse Blues. But my overall impression is as if I am smelling a perfume with the name of spring after EDA Balanced. Everything is at it’s right tone and quantity. Overall background resolution is not pretty high off V30. But extensions have loads of res and the keyboard is so convincing. Driving has a larger soundstage than EDA Balanced as it should be at this stadium concert. And you meet with a 3d stage now. Low frequencies are present. And everything including the treble here is organic  (or natural) unlike EDA which was only mimicking.

KZ EDA vs Hzsound Heart Mirror Comparison Conclusion pt1

My comparison proved my intuition correct. KZ has still miles to go before reaching HM in fields where it is already good at. However I will give it a last chance. I am not a cruel man. I will repeat the KZ EDA vs HZsound Heart Mirror under high power. Both will reach their full potential.
