Oldie but goldie

Hidizs Dawnwood ST08 is just passed the warp hole bringing it from 2019s. And excellent design piece. The chivalry theme and knight concept never gets old 🙂

Box, Hidizs Dawnwood ST08, Cable

Box is a large cardboard box with plenty of artwork. Under the box the contents are not that generous. Different eartips, stickers and storage pouch made of whether real or synthetic leather.

The iem is resembling an oval egg with chancable cable. And its fit is wonderful. Nozzle is long and deep penetrating (don’t expect an Etymotic here anyway) but as you’ll read in the next paragraph, the cable is braided like a very thin chain. Resembling KZs eternal downside. Cable. But both its connector and Y split is out of the ordinary. Connector is a 3.5mm but octagon yet comfortable shaped platic barrel. Model name dawnwood is machine etched horizontally. And finally Y split is a tiny octagon block with the etched logo on both sides…A fascinating detail level in construction we usually doesn’t see these days.

Vocalism Principle: Dynamic
Impedance: 18 ohm
Sensitivity: 108 dB/mw@1khz
Frequency response: 15-40kHz
Power: 100mw
Cable connector: 2pin 0.78mm
Length: 1.2m
Plug: 3.5mm
Distortion: ﹤0.8%

Sound

First thing first: Technics. Laid back sound signature. %50 volume off G7 is enough for a somewhat high volume. %75 is definitely high volume! But it certainly benefits from amping just like 005 pro we had reviewed. The distanced sound is turning into an enveloping sound. Layering at both directions are nice even unamped. Instruments and front and back vocals don’t get mixed up. Clarity is good but not excellent. Bass can be hoarse depending the recording. Texture is realistic. Stage is wide (debatable), enough deep for its price and high at z dimension (height). You can decide the material of any instrument with ease. And positioning on stage is satisfactory. You can sense \ understand his fingers pressing the highest notes first and descending to lower. https://tidal.com/track/55988896 Must admit instrument seperation is sub par only on very congested moments. But not at that level even when the volume is at an earbleeding level of %80. Thus control is a strong point of it. Background is not pitch black like Final e1k and no sibilance experienced. Vocals, be it solo or chorus, are well seperated from the instruments.

Bass is thumpy. Sub bass on tracks make you feel the bass thump! But its not invading other frequencies. Everything is playing and sounding as how should they be. So no overwhelming bass guitars or crosses.

Mid is its 2nd strong point. Details are decribed above. And you won’t be left alone. Electronic / organic instruments always company you with their not so bold presence.

Treble having both more than ok 3d imaging and extensions. Doesn’t make this iem shine like 005 pro but does their jobs.

Hidizs Dawnwood ST08 Conclusion

There is the term of “oldie but goldie”. This goes for Dawnwood too. In these times of constant evolution of earphones, just the looks are enough for some to buy, its still a valuable iem if its price is around 50$. You won’t regret purchasing it if blues or gospel or jazz or TSM is your thing.
