Blon Bl-03 vs Blon Z200 is a natural must, so we have the first gen Blon Bl03 and 5th(?) gen Blon Z200. Blon was always in the talks with amateurish typos like Driams, Oppoty, Nevergiveup, Letmusicburn etc. and frankly it had somehow sound quality and basses fit for pop or electronic music. But the year was ~2019 and competition was not stiff.
Now with the Q2 of 2022 we have its mature form named as Z200. And it looks like the Blon is trying to wipe out the negative perception with all the models after 03. Let’s see if Z200 is a good fresh restart after previous Blons we reviewed and forefather 03.
First part of the comparison is in the looks and comfort. While both are light in weight, z200 is clearly looking elegant both at cable and the driver itself. Plus fit is easy on z200, 03 is horrible with the twisted and turned on itself earhook and this is reducing the convenience.
03 is the darker and stronger bassed forefather of Z200. The bass beneath are more rumbling but not suited for the smooth jazz genre. In 50/100 volume 03 is pretty laid back. If it wasn’t so, I wouldn’t feel like I am listening to the concert from near the back seat. Z200 has found the courage to sit nearer to the stage than 03. Layer transparency is poor in live tracks at 03. Z200 was one or two notches better. And everything seems fused together in the scene. I couldn’t feel the excitement I lived in Playing God of Polyphia. Everything is thin and whistle like bossa nova section is empty and lifeless.
Texturing is a weak spot in 03. Bass quality, treble energy, separation of vocal and instruments at live recording soundstage and layering too.
Z200 is the new born baby compared to 03 but separation and tonality and clarity and soundstage width and tonality and live/studio layering is 👍 If what you are looking for is bass quantity, 03 is your call. But if other things, z200. You can even order yours from https://keephifi.com/products/blon-z200
