Let’s look at mid-budget range famed Chi-Fi brand Moondrop’s 109$ (MSRP) Moondrop Starfield. I think Moondrop done it good, just like other products we reviewed from them but let’s check it out!

Design & Comfort

At first glance, Starfield attracts attention with blue/purple pearlescent painting. I believe there’s protective coating but in long term, the edges would get peeled off.
Build-wise it does look like Kanas Pro/KXXS/KXXX from Moondrop. On right ear piece, there’s golden “Starfield” writing; and on the left piece, there’s a star and circle that reminds us “Starfield” name, cool move! If you ask me left piece’s sign is much more catchy than “Starfield” writing on the right piece.

If you are familiar with Universal Custom Fit and if it does fits well, lucky you but if you are unfamiliar with this fit type i recommend to try it first. If your concha size is small, it would probably fall off. Fit is not-so Universal TBH. In the other hand, Moondrop Starfield is heavy.

Accesories and Cable

Out of the box, there’s circular zipcase, 3x Filter, tweezers, 2 sets of3 size silicone tips (small bore, wide bore) and cable. Silicone tips material is stiff which is a bad thing. Cable have L plug, strain reliefs looks solid and on Y split, there’s chunky circle and it’s too way down, chin slider would be nice. Cable braided nicely but probably be tangled in your pocket. Earhooks are thin, takes shape easily and it’s comfortable. Connectors are 2 pin 0,78mm.

  • Driver: Carbon Nanotube diaphragm- 10mm Dual cavity dynamic driver.
  • Detachable cable standard: 24AWG Litz 4N OFC.
  • Interface: 0.78 2pin.
  • Sensitivity: 122dB/Vrms(@1khz)
  • Impedance: 32Ω±15% (@1khz)
  • Frequency response: 10Hz-36000 Hz (free field. 1/4 inch MIC)
  • Effective frequency response: 20Hz-20000 Hz (IEC60318-4)

Moondrop Starfield – Sound

Let’s start with driver: Starfield’s driver has carbon-nanotube diapgrahm. It’s basically 6 C (carbon) atoms aligns in hexagonal shape and creates cylindrical struct.
That makes it look like tube and that’s where the name comes from. “It’s all that?” — No, thanks to nano technology, this shape gives outstanding flexibility and durability, this helps sound resonate better. Better resonating= better speed, better resolution and better dynamism.

Let’s start with sound characteristic:
This iem is All-Rounder. Bass have well quality, and if you ask me bass on Starfield have perfect quantity, there’s no bleeding to mids. Since sound is little bit V shaped, Starfield have less mid quantity compared to flat headphones BUT it’s hard to notice. Treble extension is good too but needs more air, this IEM fits to every genre and every person thanks to sound signature. If you are looking for a headphone to gift, this is a perfect choice, Starfield probably would be endgame for non-audiophiles.

Stage is greatly wide, details sounds as supposed to be, instrument separation is really good that you can point every instrument with finger and sounds little bit dark. That was just the beginning, Starfield’s main capability is imaging: it’s really good at binaural recordings, realism and imaging is marvelous. For example you may think you are schizoprene while playing Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice: the whisperings behind your ear is horrifyingly realistic. I give Starfield 10/10 points for gaming. It was really successful in Klippel Distortion Test too.

Moondrop Starfield Review – Conclusion

Moondrop really done it. Everyone should have this balanced, realistic, refined and smooth sounding, aesthetic looking and detachable cabled All-Star.
