Review: Hidizs MS5 – The Dark Angel of Quintus

…or when dreams are met at a low price and thanks to Hidizs for providing the Hidizs MS5 for review purposes. I (and our MBA) am given the privilege of being one of the few to listen it prior others.

TL:DR

PROS

CONS

I am not behind the naming of the Hidizs MS5, but it’s possible that the term “Dark Angel” was used to evoke a sense of mystery, elegance, and power. The name may also have come from the idea of a guardian or protector, since the Hidizs MS5 are made to produce high-quality sound and make listening fun. Ultimately, the exact reasoning behind the choice of the name may be known only to the company itself.

Its ear fins keep the earphones in place when you’re moving around.

Technical Specifications

Packaging

The Hidizs MS5 comes with a well-designed packaging that ensures the safety and security of the earphones during transportation. The packaging consists of a compact black cardboard box with a glossy finish that bears the Hidizs logo on top. Upon opening the box, you will find the earphones neatly placed in a foam cutout, which keeps them securely in place. The hole in the foam is made to fit the earphones perfectly, so they won’t move around while being shipped or handled.

The Hidizs MS5 comes with various ear tips, including small, medium, and large silicone ear tips, and a pair of foam ear tips. These ear tips are placed in a separate compartment on the side of the foam cutout, ensuring they are easily accessible and well-protected. Additionally, the package includes a high-quality carrying case made of leather, which has a soft-touch interior to protect the earphones from scratches and other damages. The carrying case is compact and portable, making it easy to carry the earphones around.

Cable

The Hidizs MS5 comes with a detachable cable that is made of high-quality copper material with a silver plating, ensuring a durable and robust build. The cable is braided to prevent tangling and to enhance its longevity. It has a standard 3.5mm jack, making it compatible with a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops. The cable is fairly thick and flexible, so it doesn’t get tangled up and is comfortable to use. Overall, the cable section of the Hidizs MS5 is a well-designed and functional feature that adds to the overall quality and user experience of the earphones.

Design

It looks like a sinister, vertical web-like back plate that isn’t totally covering up the dots, which act as the air grills. The earphones also feature a protruded into you ears nozzle design that ensures a secure and comfortable fit in the ear canal. Overall, the design of the Hidizs MS5 is well thought out and visually appealing, making them a stylish accessory for music lovers on-the-go. Or despised for some due to its bicycle helmet looking backplate.

Comfort

Somewhat bulky looking, but the fit must have been 3D modeled with the ear impressions stored in the big data. The Hidizs MS5 earphones are designed with comfort in mind, featuring a lightweight and ergonomic design that fits snugly in the ear canal.  The earphones are also made so that you can wear them for long periods of time without feeling tired or uncomfortable. This makes them perfect for long listening sessions. Overall, the Hidizs MS5 earphones put comfort first, making sure that users can listen to music for long periods of time without having to give up comfort.

Internals

Simply put: 4BA and 1DD. The earphones’ wiring is made of high-purity copper, which keeps signals from getting lost and makes the sound better overall.

Hidizs MS5 Sound

Overall, the Hidizs MS5’s bass, midrange, and treble are well-balanced, making it a versatile and enjoyable in-ear monitor for a wide range of music genres. However, 5.3 ohms of impedance was (and is) a sign to warn / welcome you to its power needs. One of the standout features of the MS5’s sound is its balance. The IEM has a smooth and relaxed sound signature that is easy on the ears, but it doesn’t sacrifice detail or clarity. The midrange is clear and detailed, with excellent separation between different instruments and vocals. This allows for a more accurate and natural reproduction of the music, making it easier to distinguish between different elements in the mix. The soundstage of the MS5 is wide and immersive, with great separation between different instruments and vocals. This allows for a more three-dimensional listening experience that can be quite captivating. Moreover, the MS5 has excellent imaging, which means that you can pinpoint the location of different sounds within the mix with great accuracy, and you can almost touch the instruments in the hearing range.

In summary, the Hidizs MS5 offers a well-balanced and highly detailed sound signature that is both natural and engaging. I loved it as a seasoned reviewer.

Bass

The bass response of the Hidizs MS5 is one of its strongest features, as it offers a tight and punchy low end that is well-extended and well-defined. The bass is strong and lively, but it never gets too loud and drowns out the other frequencies. This makes for a balanced and consistent sound. The MS5’s bass response is especially good for how fresh it is, and it provides a solid base for a wide range of music styles, from electronic dance music to acoustic singer-songwriter performances. Also, the MS5’s bass response is flexible and adaptable, which means that it’s easy to change using equalization or sound tuning (via eartips or nozzle change) to fit each listener’s tastes. For the ones who prefer a warm and laid-back (relatively laid back because I am just in the center of the stage) bass response the Hidizs MS5 is a great choice for those who value a well-extended and controlled bass response in their in-ear monitors.

Midrange

The Hidizs MS5 in-ear monitor is particularly known for its exceptional midrange performance. Many people, including me, think that the midrange frequencies are the most important part of the audio spectrum because they contain most of the musical information and set the tone for the whole sound. The Hidizs MS5 boasts a clear and detailed midrange that allows for an accurate and natural reproduction of music. The separation between the different instruments and vocals is especially good, making it easier to get lost in the music. The MS5 is particularly near to excellent in the midrange performance and is great for people who like jazz, blues, classical, Knights of Cy..ahem prog rock, or acoustic music, where subtle details and nuances in the midrange are important for an authentic and interesting listening experience. And it is performing so good at progressive rocks musical atmosphere

Treble

I had stated that the Hidizs MS5 has a great midrange response, but it also has a detailed and extended treble capacity, which gives the music even more excitement and energy. Despite the added energy, the treble remains smooth and non-fatiguing, allowing for extended listening sessions without any harshness or sibilance. This makes the MS5 a great choice for people who like classical, jazz, prog rock of 60 and 70s, or electronic music, all of which require a detailed and dynamic treble response. However, people sensitive to treble had reported annoyances. Take note.

Dongle Power________

The powerhouse of this review is our new guest, the iFi GO bar attached to the iPhone 14 Pro Max

i14pmx: Everything has more or less a rumble beneath it. I felt so alien when I unplugged the dongle. But besides the power, details have been boosted as well. It has become so elegant by mixing both in its sound.
